Standard (EADGBE)
means that wherever "F" occurs in the song, play it on the 6th string, and wherever
"F(2)" occurs, play it on the 5th string. The reason for this seems obvious to me, but
I kinda have to explain it because 99% of the internet is retarded: the purpose is each
chord, "F" and "F(2)" are both technically of the fifth form F5 , the only difference
being that F(2) is one octave higher than F. So in a song where there is an F played on
the 6th string, then later, an F is played on the 5th string, the two must somehow be
differentiated or else it will sound weird when the reader attempts to play it. Duh.
Anyhow, I chose this method over tabbing the chords over and over throughout the song
because it keeps things nice and neat. I also tried to place the chord changes over the
lyrics as accurately as possible, but it's not precise. It shouldn't need to be anyhow;
music is all vibes. Get a feel for the song and the chord changes should come naturally,
as should the rhythm. Practice makes perfect!
If you find any major errors or what-not, feel free to send me an e-mail. Chances are, I
won't respond if you have a minor variation to a solo or a lyric. If you're good enough to
hear what I can't, then you don't really need this file, do you? Leave me alone. If, on the
other hand, there's some outrageous mistake, let me know. I'll be cool about it.
So, that's it. Enjoy. And if you're in Phoenix, give me a shout; we'll party. Until
next time, kiddies - rock on!

--== Jesus of Suburbia ==--
Notes:
This song is complicated yet simple; the chord structure is
characteristically Green Day in that there are very few chords played in
different patterns for the verse, pre-chorus, chorus, etc. Where it differs
from their other songs, however, is its dramatic shifts in style and tone
throughout. Incidentally, the song is nearly 10 minutes long, comparable in
length to rock operas like "Stairway to Heaven" and "Bohemian Rhapsody."
To date, this is Green Day's only rock opera (with the possible exception of
"Homecoming," another track on this album).
Consequently, I've broken it down into component parts, each part denoting a
shift in style or tone; these are denoted by "PART" and then a roman numeral
designating the part of the song.
Chords Used:
PART I:
Verse 1
(no chords)
I'm the son of rage and love
(no chords)
The Jesus of suburbia
The bible of none-of-the-above
On a steady diet of...
(no chords)
Soda pop and Ritalin
(no chords)
No one ever died for my sins
In hell, far as I can tell
At least the ones I got away with
Chorus 1
And there's nothing wrong with me
This is how I'm supposed to be
In a land of make-believe
(no chords)
I don't believe in me
Verse 2
(no chords)
Get my television fix
(no chords)
Sitting on my crucifix
A living room on my private womb
While the moms and brads are away
(no chords)
So fall in love and fall in debt
(no chords)
To alcohol and cigarettes
And Mary-Jane, to keep me insane
Doing someone else's cocaine
Chorus 1
And there's nothing wrong with me
This is how I'm supposed to be
In a land of make-believe
(no chords)
I don't believe in me
Bridge 1
PART II:
Verse 3
At the center of the Earth in the parking lot
Of the Seven-Eleven where I was taught
The motto was just a lie
It says home is where your heart is, but what a shame
Cuz' everyone's heart doesn't beat the same
It's beating out of time
Chorus 2
City of the dead
At the end of another lost highway
Signs misleading to nowhere
City of the damned
Lost children with dirty faces today
No one really seems to care
Verse 4
I read the graffiti on the bathroom stall
Like the holy scriptures of a shopping mall
And so it seemed to confess
It didn't say much but it only confirmed
That the center of the Earth is the end of the world
And I can really care less.
Chorus 2
City of the dead
At the end of another lost highway
Signs misleading to nowhere
City of the damned
Lost children with dirty faces today
No one really seems to care
PART III:
Solo
Chorus 3
I don't care if you don't |
|
Ab Eb | Repeat this part
I don't care if you don't | 4 times
|
I don't care if you don't care |
/
I don't care...
Bridge 2
Verse 5
Everyone's so full of shit
Born and raised by hypocrites
Hearts recycled but never saved
From the cradle, to the grave
We are the kids of War and Peace
From Anaheim to the Middle East
We are the stories and disciples of
The Jesus of Suburbia
Pre-chorus 3
Land of make-believe
And it don't believe in me.
Land of make-believe
And I don't believe.
Chorus 3
And I don't care.
I don't care.
I don't care.
I don't care.
I don't care.
PART IV:
Verse 6
Dearly beloved are you listening
I can't remember a word that you were saying
Are we demented or am I disturbed
The space that's in between insane and insecure
Oh therapy can you please fill the void
Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed
Nobody's perfect and I stand accused
For lack of a better word and that's my best excuse (sigh)
PART V:
Verse 7
(kinda hard to express the rhythm here; just repeat the little verse
intro)
To live and not to breathe
is to die in tragedy
To run, to run away
To find what you believe
Chorus 4
(again, kinda hard to express rhythm; each chord is strummed only once and
on the beat)
And I
leave behind
This hurricane
of fucking lies
Verse 8
I lost my faith to this
This town, that don't exist
So I run, I run away
The light of masochist
Chorus 4
And I
leave behind
This hurricane
of fucking lies
And I
walked this line
On million and one
fucking times
But not this time
Solo 2
PART VI:
Verse 9

I don't feel any shame, I won't apologize
When there ain't nowhere you can go
Running away from pain when you've been victimized
Tales from another broken...home

You're leaving
You're leaving home.

And I walk alone

--== Are We The Waiting? ==--
Chords Used:
NOTES: This song makes use of a particular riff, introduced at the beginning. This
pattern is played over the chords being strummed in the background. So, when the
rhythm guitar strums the "A" chord, the lead guitar plays this riff over A, when
the background guitar plays "D", the pattern stays the same, but is then played
over "D". This pattern occurs consistently throughout the song. I'll tab out the
pattern over each chord once; after that, I'll assume the reader knows the pattern
And is playing it over the transcribed chords
)
Intro
Verse 1
(Continue the riff from the intro)
Starry nights, city lights
Coming down over me
Skyscrapers and stargazers
In my head
Are we we are, are we we are the waiting unknown
(The riff is now played over F# and E):
This dirty town was burning down in my dreams
(repeat above riff)
Lost and found city bound in my dreams
Chorus
And screaming
Are we we are, Are we we are the waiting...
And screaming
Are we we are, Are we we are the waiting...
Verse 2
Forget me nots, second thoughts
Live in isolation
Heads or tails and fairytales in my mind
Are we we are, Are we we are the waiting unknown
The rage and love, the story of my life
The Jesus of suburbia is a lie
Chorus
And screaming
Are we we are, Are we we are the waiting...

--== Wake Me Up When September Ends==--
Chords Used:
Intro
Verse's 1,2:
Summer has come and passed, the innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to pass, seven years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Chorus 1
Here comes the rain again Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again, becoming who we are
As my memory rests, but never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
(drums start in)
(distortion, and what sounds like a second guitar - echo, maybe?)
Verse's 3,4:
Summer has come and passed, the innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Ring out the bells again, like we did when spring began
Wake me up when September ends
Chorus 2
(no lead parts, just chords now)
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests, but never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Solo
Verse's 5,6:

Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to pass, twenty years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends

--== Homecoming ==--
NOTE: Sorry about listing all of these chords here, but this song is like 9 minutes
long and certain parts of use different forms of the same chords. Technically,
you could ignore these and just play power chords, which would be a good enough
approximation. I'm simply including these for individuals who want to know the precise
chords (or rather, as precise as I can figure them)
Chords Used:
Intro
(kinda hard to explain the rhythm, listen to the song to get the timing of the rake)
PART I:
Verse 1
My heart is beating from me
I am standing all alone
Please call me only if you are coming home
Waste another year flies by
Waste a night or two
You taught me how to live
Verse 2
In the streets of shame
Where you've lost your dreams in the rain
There's no sign of hope
The stems and seeds of the last of the dope
There's a glow of light
The St. Jimmy is the spark in the night
Bearing gifts and trust
A fixture in the city of lust
Chorus
What the hell's your name?
What's your pleasure what is your pain?
Do you dream too much?
Do you feel what you need is a crutch
Verse 3
In the crowd of pain.
St. Jimmy comes without any shame
He says "we're fucked up" but we're not the same
And mom and dad are the ones you can blame
Chorus 2
Jimmy died today
He blew out his brains into the bay
In the state of mind
Is my own private suicide
PART II:
Bridge
(again, the timing is kind of tricky; listen closely to get it right)
A D A G A --\
Well nobody cares |
|
Well nobody cares |
|
Does anyone care if nobody cares? --/
Verse
Jesus filling out paperwork now
At the facility on East 12th st.
He's not listening to a word now
He's in his own world
And he's daydreaming
He'd rather be doing something else now
Like cigarettes and coffee with the under belly
His life's on the line with anxiety now
And she had enough
And he had plenty
Somebody get me out of here
Anybody get me out of here
Somebody get me out of here
Get me the fuck right out of here
So far away
I don't want to stay
Get me out of here right now
Just wanna be free
Is there a responsibility
Get me out of here right now
This lifelike dream ain't for me
Part III:
(keep strumming D for awhile; it sounds like Billie is using a flange effect)
I fell asleep while watching Spike TV
After 10 cups of coffee
And your still not here
Dreaming of a song
But something went wrong
And you can't tell anyone
'Cause no one's here
Left me here alone
And I should've stayed home
After 10 cups of coffee
I'm thinking where'd you go
Nobody likes you
Everyone left you
They're all out without you
Havin' fun
Where'd you go?
Everyone left you
Nobody likes you
They're all out without you
Havin' fun
Where'd you go?
Part IV:
(apparently written and sung by Tre)
Intro
Geez...ha...
Verse
(has a blues-y feel to the rhythm; the pattern is a standard blues riff in A)
I got a rock and roll band
I got a rock and roll life
I got a rock and roll girlfriend
And another ex-wife
I got a rock and roll house
I got a rock and roll car
I play the shit out the drums
And I can play the guitar
I got a kid in New York
I got a kid in the bay
I haven't drank or smoked nothin'
In over 22 days
So get off my case
Off of my case
Off of my case
Part V:
(very tricky rhythm here; listen closely to the timing)
Here they come marching down the street
Like a desperation murmur of a heartbeat
Coming back from the edge of town
Underneath their feet
The time has come and it's going nowhere
Nobody ever said that life was fair now
Go-carts and guns are treasures they will bear
In the summer heat
The world is spinning
Round and round
Out of control again
From the 7-11 to the fear of breaking down
So send my love a letterbomb
And visit me in hell
We're the ones going
PART VI:
Home We're coming home again
Home We're coming home again
I started fuckin' running
As soon as my feet touched ground
We're back in barrio
And to you and me, that's jingle town
That's home We're coming home again
Home We're coming home again
Home We're coming home again
Home We're coming home again
Home We're coming home again
Outro
(play a "D" chord and let it ring over the "nobody likes you" voice)
Nobody likes you
Everyone left you
They're all out with out you
Havin' fun...
--== Whatsername ==--
Notes: Guitar is "Drop D" tuned. Sounds a bit like two songs put together:
"One Headlight" by the Wallflowers, with the chorus of "Surrender" by Cheap Trick
as a bridge. But, whatever. I smoke a lot of crack.
Chords Used:
Intro
Verse 1
Thought I ran into you down on the street
Then it turned out to only be a dream
Chorus
I made a point to burn all of the photographs
She went away and then I took a different path
I remember the face but I can't recall the name
Now I wonder how whatsername has been.
Solo 1
Verse 2
Seems that she disappeared without a trace
Did she ever marry oh whats-his-face?
Chorus
I made a point to burn all of the photographs
She went away and then I took a different path
I remember the face but I can't recall the name
Now I wonder how whatsername has been.
Bridge
(repeat twice)
Remember
Whatever
It seems like forever ago
Remember
Whatever
It seems like forever ago
The regrets (Remember)
Are useless in my mind (Whatever)
She's in my head I must confess (It seems like forever ago)
The regrets (Remember)
Are useless in my mind (Whatever)
She's in my head so long ago (It seems like forever ago)
Go... go... go..
And in the darkest nights
If my memory serves me right
I'll never turn back time
Forgetting you but not the time
Outro
Well, that's the complete album. I hope it helps those of you who like
Green Day enough to emulate them via your guitar. Special thanks go out
to Mike Fireball & Brian Grey for getting me the cd, greendayauthority.com
for most of the lyrics and to reizig for the parts of "Letterbomb" I borrowed
from his tab. And of course, Green Day!
